Abstract


Stress among older adults is a major mental health concern that can adversely affect their quality of life. Physical activity, family support, and social support are considered important factors influencing stress levels among older adults. This study aimed to analyze the associations of age, sex, physical activity, family support, and social support with stress levels among older adults. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among older adults in the working area of the Cililitan Auxiliary Public Health Center, East Jakarta. Data were collected through structured interviews using a questionnaire. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed using the Chi-square test with a significance level of p<0.05. The strength of associations was expressed as Odds Ratios (ORs) with 95% Confidence Intervals (95% CIs). Physical activity (p<0.001; OR=0.13; 95% CI=0.05–0.32), family support (p<0.001; OR=5.05; 95% CI=2.19–11.63), and social support (p<0.001; OR=4.62; 95% CI=2.02–10.60) were significantly associated with stress levels among older adults. In contrast, age (p=0.164) and sex (p=0.264) were not significantly associated with stress levels. Physical activity, family support, and social support were significantly associated with stress levels among older adults. Therefore, stress prevention strategies should emphasize promoting appropriate physical activity and strengthening family and social support to improve the mental well-being of older adults
