Abstract

Melasma is a chronic skin hyperpigmentation disorder characterized by brownish patches on the face and often causes aesthetic and psychological concerns. Conventional management includes topical agents and ultraviolet protection; however, therapeutic outcomes are variable and may be associated with long-term side effects. Acupuncture, as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is used as a complementary therapy to help balance body energy and improve skin condition. Objective: This study aimed to describe acupuncture care for patients with melasma at Pelarosee Therapy House, West Lombok. Methods: This study employed a descriptive case study design with a qualitative approach. The subject was a melasma patient undergoing acupuncture therapy. Data were collected through interviews, observation, physical examination, and evaluation of therapeutic outcomes at each session. Observed variables included changes in melasma pigmentation, facial skin condition, and patient responses to therapy. Results: The acupuncture care demonstrated improvements in skin condition, including reduced hyperpigmentation intensity, fresher facial appearance, and increased patient relaxation after therapy. No significant adverse effects were observed during the treatment. Conclusion: Acupuncture care for melasma patients showed positive and safe outcomes as a complementary therapy
