Peningkatan Pengetahuan Pencegahan Demensia Melalui Edukasi Kesehatan, Brain Exercise, dan Skrining Fungsi Kognitif pada Lansia di Sekolah Lansia IRL Jawa Barat

Abstract


Dementia is a growing public health concern due to the increasing aging population worldwide. Cognitive decline negatively affects older adults' quality of life, increases dependency, and places substantial burdens on families and healthcare systems. Health promotion and preventive strategies are essential through health education, cognitive stimulation, and early cognitive screening. This community service program aimed to improve older adults' knowledge regarding dementia prevention while conducting early cognitive function screening. The activity involved 87 older adults from Sekolah Lansia Juara, Burangrang Village, and Sekolah Lansia Laskar Semangat, Cibeunying Kidul District, West Java. The intervention consisted of health education, brain exercise demonstrations, educational games, and cognitive screening. Participants actively engaged throughout the educational sessions supported by audiovisual media and printed leaflets. Brain exercises and educational games enhanced participation and learning motivation. Screening results indicated that 55 participants had normal cognitive function, while 39 participants showed signs of cognitive impairment requiring further assessment. This integrated approach demonstrates that combining health education, cognitive stimulation, educational games, and simple cognitive screening represents an effective community-based strategy for dementia prevention and early detection among older adults.
