Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a health issue that develops gradually and often presents no clear symptoms in its early stages. This condition highlights the importance of prevention efforts through increased public awareness, particularly among adults and the elderly who possess risk factors for non-communicable diseases. This community service activity aimed to enhance public knowledge regarding kidney health and CKD prevention. The activity was conducted on September 8, 2026, at RPTRA Payung Tunas Teratai in Cipayung, East Jakarta, involving 20 adults and elderly participants. The methods employed included health education, blood pressure and blood glucose screenings, and knowledge evaluation using pre-tests and post-tests. Education was delivered through presentations, discussions, and Q&A sessions covering kidney function, CKD, risk factors, signs and symptoms, the link between hypertension/diabetes mellitus and kidney disorders, and preventive measures through healthy lifestyle adoption. Evaluation results showed an increase in the participants' average knowledge score from 65 in the pre-test to 95 in the post-test—a rise of 30 points or 46.2% from the baseline. Among the 20 participants screened, 11 (55%) exhibited systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg. Additionally, one participant (5%) recorded a blood glucose level of 232 mg/dL. These screening results served as supporting information for the educational session rather than as a basis for clinical diagnosis. The activity demonstrated an improvement in participant knowledge following education on kidney health and CKD prevention. Health education combined with simple screenings represents a viable community-based promotive and preventive approach to disseminating information about kidney health
